ABOUT THE COR PROGRAM
As defined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), a health and safety management system means “a coordinated system of procedures, processes and other measures that is designed to be implemented by employers in order to promote continuous improvement in occupational health and safety”.
The COR™ program is nationally trademarked and endorsed by participating members of the Canadian Federation of Construction Safety Associations (CFCSA) of which the IHSA is a member. It provides employers with effective tools to develop implement and assess their health and safety management system.
COR™ is aimed at driving positive workplace behaviour and practices that lead to improved performance. It is currently used across Canada and is a pre-qualification requirement for many contractors working in and out of the province, and on public- and private-sector projects.

Access to Safety Networks and Resources
- COR promotes a proactive approach to safety management, encouraging organizations to identify and mitigate risks before incidents occur.
- By adhering to the program’s stringent safety standards, companies can reduce the frequency and severity of workplace injuries and illnesses.
- A strong safety culture fostered by the COR program can lead to higher employee morale, as workers feel valued and protected.
- Improved safety practices and reduced incident rates can contribute to lower employee turnover, helping retain experienced and skilled workers.
- COR certification is a mark of excellence in health and safety, enhancing the organization’s reputation among clients, partners, and the community.
- Many clients and contractors prefer or require working with COR-certified companies, which can open up new business opportunities.
- Achieving COR certification demonstrates that an organization complies with local, provincial, and federal occupational health and safety regulations.
- This can help reduce the risk of fines, penalties, and legal action resulting from non-compliance.
